Special Operations Warrior Foundation
Military families live in a state of uncertainty, and circumstances are always changing. This is especially true of
our Special Operations forces, which since 9/11 have seen demands on them increase. Special Operations
personnel is a rare breed of human: expertly skilled, highly trained and wholly dedicated. The challenges
they face are particularly dangerous and unpredictable, which makes their job not only difficult on them
but their family as well. It takes a special kind of person - an honorable person - to do this job. That’s
why they are the perfect people to highlight at the Restoring Honor rally. Read more about our
amazing Special Ops in this special to Fusion Magazine HERE, and find out how you can
donate to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation HERE.

Open Letter from: Dean Whetstine
CDR USN (Ret)
Friends,
Please forward this message as widely as possible throughout your organizations.
Due to severe budget cut proposals pending at the Shasta Union High School District, the
Enterprise NJROTC program is at risk. We will probably be reduced to 1 instructor position
next year (that's pretty much a done deal). In addition, that single remaining position is very
likely to face a significant pay cut which will make the job infeasible to accept, and which
will make the position more difficult to fill with any new outside instructor applicant.
For major budget proposals, the district staff makes the recommendations, but the Board of
Trustees makes the decisions. This concerns the allocation of tax dollars to public education.
Thus it is all of our business!
You have been strong supporters of the NJROTC program, its values, and what it does to
help develop the next generation of Americans. I'm asking for your help to influence the
pending Board decision. I know from experience that when the community engages with
a school board, they can force a re-evaluation of priorities and affect decision making!
We are facing a short timeline, because the next board meeting is on 09 March (Tuesday).
Here's what I'm asking for. Pick any one, two or all three:
1. Write a letter to the Board and state your opinion on the fundamental necessity to
maintain NJROTC program funding at a level which will permit retention of at least 1 instructor
at full teacher pay. Mailing address:
President, SUHSD Board of Trustees
Shasta Learning Center
2200 Eureka Way
Redding, CA 96001
2. Send an email to all the board members on the same subject. Email addresses:
3. This is the big one! Attend the next open session School Board Meeting. Pick up one of
the pink cards on the table in the back of the room, fill it out, and give it to the board secretary.
When called, address the board members, district office staff, and everyone else present with
your views on this subject (5 minutes).
Date: 09 March 2010 (Tuesday)
Time: Be there by 6:20 pm for a scheduled 6:30 pm start
Place: Board Meeting Room
Shasta Learning Center (west entrance)
2200 Eureka Way, Redding.
Numbers matter! We need a crowd at that meeting! I firmly believe we can affect the future
of a unique and valuable educational program in Shasta County. Please forward this to anyone
and everyone who could help make a difference.
